Spring is Calling-Jardesca Apertiva

 

As we move from winter to spring, what images come to mind? When I was living north, it was a single white crocus pushing through the cracked and cold soil. In Texas, it is the Mountain Laurels and Redbuds. We move from citrus and evergreens to white flowers and herb gardens. And as we bridge the seasons, we may want a drink that bridges those notes. Each can be found in Jardesca, an apertiva which is making a debut this week in Texas Whole Foods Markets.

Jardesca is a California blend of dry and sweet white wines and an eau de vie enhanced with 10 botanicals. With the addition of the grape spirit, Jardesca is able to be enjoyed for weeks after opening, making it ideal for a weekday splash or a pre-dinner drink.

Jardesca is at once round and bright, herbaceous and floral. Pour it on the rocks or with a splash of something sparkling. Add fruit, additional herbs, whatever your mood and the season dictates.

The sample arrived with a recipe and the required ingredients to experiment. (Fantastic marketing, by the way.) Their suggestion of a “Garden Spritz was Jardesca, prosecco, blood orange and rosemary. I also tried it with blood orange and mint, Meyer lemon and a splash of bitters. Next on my list is lemon and lavender. In the spring, peach and basil. They have several fun suggestions for recipes on their site as well.

Whether you are setting the mood for spring or prepping the palate for a dinner party, Jardesca is a lovely start. Look for it March 1st in your Texas WFM store or find it online.
